Yetminster Sports Club

Brierley Hay, Yetminster DT9 6NR

It has come to the attention of the Committee that a number of rumours are rife in the village, regarding the continuation of the Sports Club.  So this is an attempt to set the record straight…..

YES we do have a (financial) problem but NO we are not going to close the doors –  at least not immediately.

The club has lost a number of important sources of income in the last year:- ❖ We now longer have either the Normalair, or the Yeminster Sharks, football teams playing local league matches on our pitch; so regular match fees and bar receipts have decreased. ❖ The Skittles team have relocated to the White Hart – so again, another regular source of income has dropped out of our takings ❖ Not everyone has renewed their Annual Subscription (which was due in September following the change in date last year – so IF YOURS is overdue – PLEASE pay up NOW!)

Against that, the majority of our expenditure is fixed; we still have to pay for items like the grass to be cut, the electricity and water to be provided, buildings to be insured and rent to the Parish Council for the actual grounds.

At the moment (Sept/Oct) we are spending more than we are getting in as income.  So, our reserves (the savings) are being run down, and the Committee are doing what we can to generate new sources of income whilst looking for savings in our expenditure.

We are in discussions with the Parish Council as to getting others involved and having longer opening hours / being open more evenings – and even possibly during the day.

ULTIMATELY though, it comes down to this:- EITHER we get more people to use the Club and the grounds  OR we will have to put it to the membership early next year that we close down while we still have sufficient funds to pay off creditors.

In that case the village will risk losing the facility we currently offer, for good. SO – this is an appeal for people to come and use what we currently have – as well as contributing any ideas for creating more income – while it still exists. Don’t just ‘sit on your hands’ and then regret when its gone.

I’m happy to try and answer any questions / suggestions for income schemes you may have – so do contact me (01935 873 888) or via Email – and we / I will do our best to answer these.
