After a period of uncertainty the club reopended in February 2020 as Yetminster Community Sports Club as a centre for community activity.
The football pitch is available for hire and members can hire the facilities for events and private parties.

This is a valuable community asset which can only survive with the support of the local community. We would be interested to hear from any resident who would like use the facilities for new activities. We have been encouraged by the number of young people using the sports field on a casual basis

History of Hamcrate
After some uncertainty as to the ownership of the land, enquiries uncovered a letter from Bartlett and Sons Solicitors dated 27.2.1962 which stated the following: Thomas King, deceased, re Bequest to Yetminster Parish Council (of) Field “Hamcrate, Yetminster” Hamcroft Field.
By his will the above named deceased bequeathed the above property to your Council in the following terms:
I hereby devise (free of all duties) to the Parish Council of Yetminster in the said county of Dorset my freehold close of land situated in the parish of Yetminster aforesaid called “Hamcrate” for the benefit of the inhabitants of the said Parish of Yetminster.
The title deeds to the land were passed to Messrs Fookes and Grimley Solicitors of Sherborne on 20 June 1941. Since that time successive Parish Councils have enacted the stewardship of the site which has seen the addition of a children’s playground, scout hut, allotments, tennis court football pitch, croquet lawn and sports pavilion.
A group of trustees were appointed to manage the site, which resulted in the building of the original club house and a further extension in the 1990’s, which included a skittle alley. In the past football teams used the pitch on both Saturdays and Sundays, while a cricket team used the facility in the summer months. The cricket team folded some years ago and the loss of skittles and football in the summer of 2017 resulted in the committee of the Sports Club taking the decision to terminate their lease in February 2018. After a tender process new tenants took over the management of the facilities but, after struggling to attract regular custom, their lease was terminated in June 2019.
In February 2020 a new tenancy agreement was signed and Yetminster Community Sports Club Ltd was formed as a not for profit organisation. Within weeks of re-opening, the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a forced closure for most of the year. With the lifting of restrictions, membership grew and both skittles and football teams were attracted back to the club in September 2021 after a four-year absence. Since then a series of music events, quiz nights, skittles evenings and social gatherings have been staged and the facilities have seen a gradual improvement. In June 2025 the management of the club was taken over by Sherborne Town Ladies FC with plans to continue the development of the facilities.
